How to Make Your Rose Bouquets Last Longer

How to Make Your Rose Bouquets Last Longer

Roses are timeless, elegant, and known as the Queen of Flowers for a reason. Whether you’ve just received a romantic bouquet or treated yourself to one of our luxurious Queen of Flowers, you’ll want them to stay fresh and beautiful for as long as possible.

Here are some simple yet effective tips to keep your rose bouquet looking gorgeous for days to come:

1. Trim the Stems at an Angle

Before placing your roses in a vase, use sharp scissors or garden shears to trim about 1–2 cm off each stem at a 45° angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption and prevents the stems from resting flat at the bottom of the vase, where they can get blocked.

💡 Pro Tip: Re-trim the stems every 2–3 days for maximum freshness!

2. Remove Leaves Below the Water Line

Any leaves submerged in water will rot quickly and encourage bacterial growth. Carefully remove these to keep the water clean and your roses healthier.

3. Choose the Right Vase and Clean Water

Use a clean vase filled with room temperature water. Roses are sensitive to bacteria, so a dirty vase or stale water can shorten their lifespan.

🧼 Bonus Tip: Wash the vase thoroughly every few days when you change the water.

4. Add Flower Food (or DIY One)

Most rose bouquets from JM Flower come with flower food—don’t skip it! If you don’t have any on hand, you can DIY a mix with a teaspoon of sugar, a few drops of bleach, and a dash of lemon juice.

🌸 Why it works: Sugar feeds the flowers, lemon lowers the pH, and bleach fights bacteria.

5. Keep Them Cool and Out of Direct Sunlight

Roses love cool temperatures. Display your bouquet in a shaded, cool area away from heat sources, direct sunlight, or drafts from fans and air-conditioners.

6. Refresh Water Regularly

Change the water every two days to prevent bacterial build-up. Each time you refresh the water, give the stems another trim and rinse the vase.

7. Remove Wilting Petals

As outer petals start to wilt, gently pluck them off to keep the bouquet looking fresh and neat.

8. Try the Fridge Hack (Optional)

Pop your bouquet into the fridge overnight to extend its life. This mimics the cool temperatures of professional flower storage.

Let Your Roses Reign Longer

Every rose bouquet tells a story—of love, gratitude, or simple joy. With a little care, you can enjoy your blooms longer and let the beauty of roses reign in your home.
